Tom Fordy: UK Telegraph: Gadgets, girls and grins: How the Mission Impossible series is now more Bond than Bond--- "As rollicking an action film as Mission: Impossible – Fallout is, it’s easily improved by imagining A View To A Kill –era Roger Moore in the place of Tom Cruise. The slight flare of his trousers flapping in the wind as he clambers on the landing gear of a moving helicopter; close-ups of Rodge’s sun –weathered face pretending to dangle from a 300ft cliff (while a stunt man who looks nothing like him does the actual dangling for the long shots) or Moore pausing for a crafty arched eyebrow mid–fight to a–woo a lady. Because Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a Bond film: the stunts, the ridiculous gadgets, the locations, the megalomaniac villains hell–bent on world destruction. These are all components."

Screenrant.com: DANNY SALEMME : Craig's era wasn't without its flaws. And assuming Craig passes the torch to another actor after Bond 25, the future of the series will benefit from evolving (if not completely eradicating) various aspects of Craig's era that missed the mark.

One of the most notable issues with the Craig era was continuity. Whenever a new actor is brought aboard to play Bond, the soft-reboot layer is applied. However, this subtle approach over the years is nothing compared to the all-out narrative shake-up introduced in Casino Royale. With Craig's Bond, the character underwent major makeovers, but didn't completely shed its previous skins (Was it a prequel? A reboot? An alternate universe?). Bond himself was starting anew (audiences witness when and how he earned his double-o status), but Judi Dench reprised her role as M, whom she had played for the past four movies in Pierce Brosnan's era, beginning with Goldeneye. And even though suspension of disbelief is necessary to truly enjoy these movies, the pick-and-choose approach made for a confusing setup to Craig's introduction, especially when major retcons - namely with Blofeld, a staple villain in the series - are put into effect.

Another major blow to Craig's era was the introduction of some mishandled narrative throughlines. Where other iterations of Bond implemented ongoing storylines that tended to specifically focus on Bond's relationship with certain villains, Craig's era went deeper. Attempting to bring Bond's humanity to the surface (showcasing what made Bond so emotionally disconnected from the endless wave of "Bond girls," his moral ambivalence clashing with his job requirements, etc.), filmmakers weren't entirely successful. Attempting to give Craig's Bond a more personalized interpretation only added to continuity missteps and drastic tonal shifts. Finally, one other major takeaway from Craig's era that future entries will hopefully avoid is the similarity his movies shared with the Bourne franchise. In an attempt to add some modern grit, Casino Royale introduced some inspired changes to the character, the action, and the pacing. For the most part, it was successful (with standout action set pieces including Casino Royale's opening chase sequence and Skyfall's skyscraper fist fight); but at times, the changes treaded copycat territory, feeling more like knock-offs of the Bourne movies than anything wholly original.

Down to a near shot-for-shot recreation of Jason Bourne jumping parkour-style from one building window to another, Craig's era signaled some slight insecurity in the modern Bond franchise. These movies have always centered around innovation - not just in Bond's gadgets, but in its overall general aesthetic - so blatantly borrowing from other properties added a cheapened effect to this newer era. And though sporadically copying Bourne movies by no means ruined Craig's era, they didn't go unnoticed; and they won't be missed.

It seems a certain group of naysayers are starting to get a "quantum" of vindication! I can't wait till Craig finally departs, just so I can watch all his fanboys suddenly desert him!

Sounds like they already are. Bond 25 is going to have to work d**n hard to avoid reviews along these lines.

I agree Kris, Craig won't be able to just sleep walk his way through this time, as I assume he's expecting. However, so long as he holds the mantle of Bond officially many will dare not criticize, but they will happily scoff as if they had been doing so all along once he's replaced.

James Bond 25 Special effect supervisor Chris Corbould: Speaking at the opening of 007 ELEMENTS, a new Bond Cinematic Installation in Austria, Chris said: “[It’s] very exciting. I’m not going to talk about it, but I can’t remember being so excited about going on to a Bond. “It’s going to be very, very special.”

Corbould, who also worked on Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy and two of the latest Star Wars movies, was asked at a roundtable interview if there would be a similar focus on realism with Bond 25.

He added: “I wouldn’t be doing it otherwise. Think the Olympics.”

First, he can't talk about it because nothing is happening.

Second, now I'm no expert on British Royalty, but I don't thing Her Majesty is much of a sky diver in real life.

JAMES Bond will take on a Russian villain in latest film. 007 will tackle a beast from the East in what is likely to be Daniel Craig's last outing, in the as-of-yet unnamed flick. A casting call has gone out for a Russian male villain and his Russian female accomplice. The baddies must be “charismatic, powerful, innovative, cosmopolitan, bright, cold and vindictive” according to stage notes. It will be the first time the franchise has featured a Russian baddie since Robert Carlyle as Renard in 1999's The World Is Not Enough. According to sources, Jared Leto is leading the pack to bag the evil role and kick ass Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich is being lined up to play the shadowy female threat. A movie source told Star Online: “Daniel Craig’s last outing will bring Bond bang up to date with political tensions, you can count on Bond to do the right thing.” The audition documents also call for a Maori actor to play a "cunning" henchman, with "stage combat skills"...................Russia, Russia, Russia :?: :!: This is Boyle's great new idea? :hair:

So apparently EON are casting villains to get Moose and Squirrel?!

Also, a Maori henchman, Mr. Kill from DAD anybody?

I agree with Omega, it all smells a little too rehashed, on point, and ambitious.

The Russia narrative is a new concept, relating to the fake BS going on daily in the USA. For Boyle to try to capitalize on this notion via a Bond plot is a waste of time. People in the USA do NOT want to hear about this garbage any longer and are 'Russia-ed out' already. Bond 25 had better be Broccoli's and Cr-egg's swan songs because this franchise needs a new writing direction with fun things to watch.

Carlyle's Renard was a Bosnian who previously worked for KGB not a Russian.Besides that,if they cast Jared Leto will he ham it up to eleven? I really do hope so because that might be the only fun thing in the movie.
No word on the theme song though?

Craig's Bond movies are similar to Seagal's later straight to DVD movies, so having a stock Eastern European villain will fit.

That usually comes quite late in the production process. Until then, expect whoever happens to be number one in any given week to be "hotly tipped for the new Bond theme".

Marvel just fired James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, because of offensive tweets he made 10 years ago. The tweets were pretty vile, it has to be said, but they were made before he was even hired for volume 1, ffs! Surely there must be some sort of statute of limitations on such things? If having made paedophilia jokes in the past is grounds for firing, then the makers of Airplane will never work again!
