Some comments from Ain't It Cool's thread on this trailer...

Ah, Bond. This is Eggsy. He'd like to introduce you to the concept of 'fun'. You remember 'fun' from the 80's don't you, Bond?

And it doesn't need to be invisible-car, space-battle, moon-buggy, gorilla-suit, clown-face levels of fun, either. Just stop walking with such a sour, miserable look on your face. And, if you're going to be silly, be submarine-car silly. Not Blofeld's-step-brother stupid.

That's what happens when you hire Daniel Craig. You get a James Bond that looks like Sid James with a stick up his arse.

Yes, a thousand times yes. This proves that the original Bond concept isn't dead or passé. f**k 007's brooding over his shitty childhood.

Matthew Vaughn is the perfect choice to direct a Bond film. He can bring back the classic and fun back into Bond again. Barbara Broccoli should stop hiring hack directors and give him a call.

I once loved the Bond franchise, but with Bourne, Mission Impossible, and now Kingsmen, I'm not concerned the Bond franchise isn't for me any more. However I wouldn't want Vaughn to waste his time with Bond. That franchise needs to compete with the others, not poach its talent or copy them. I'd like to see Bond come back with a fitting (and unknown) actor playing the part and a creative team that make Bond as fun and cool as the other spy franchises. I wouldn't want Vaughn to leave this franchise. I think he's too creative to be wasted on anything but creating new ones. What Bond really needs is a new producers to start with.

It's not the Bond film we deserve, but the one we need right now.

She did. He was apparently hired as the director of CR, but it turned out to be a clerical error. :picard:

Is it me, or did it sound like the composer's brief for the first part of the trailer (before My Way kicks in) was "make it as much like Barry's FRWL score as you can get away with"?

Is Barbara still going to pretend everyone are into her brooding gritty "reality" she has pushed down our throats for more than a decade?

//I don't recall who the distributors are being a big deal before Sony get involved. Maybe it was because MGM could distribute themselves, dunno.//

Sony was part of a group that bought MGM. That's how Sony became involved with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

MGM then went bankrupt, reorganized with new ownership (mostly hedge funds). At this point, the "new" MGM was too small to release its own movies and needed to cut distribution deals with other studios. Sony signed up to co-finance and release Skyfall and SPECTRE. That contract expired after SPECTRE.

“The Circle” stars Hanks as the quietly villainous founder of a Silicon Valley social media company, with Watson portraying an employee who finds herself in a dilemma over ethics. Audiences were unimpressed and gave “The Circle” a thumbs down with a D+ CinemaScore grade — well below the norm. Dave Eggers co-wrote the screenplay, based on his novel of the same name. James Ponsoldt (“The Spectacular Now”) directed and produced.

It looked quite good from the trailer, and has a top-notch cast, but the reviews have been dreadful. Shame, as I kinda like the idea of Tom Hanks as Evil Mark Zuckerberg.

d**n shame, I saw the story the other day.
Even Mickey Rooney died with only $20k in the bank after 90 years of constant work.
Stars that are a flash in pan can't afford to live in LA and can't afford to not be there in case work become available.

Huh? I was looking at his filmography to see what you meant, and there seem to be more hits than bombs in there.

His last few bomb on the launch pad, dunno if they are "bad", but his recent movies haven't been "winners"
Long time since he's had a blockbuster, even inferno tanked here, it was below the break even threshold of $225 million.

Bridge of spy's, hologram for a king, sully, captain Phillips, all kind of struggle to make money, but I don't know the movies are bad

What were the budgets for those movies, though? I can't imagine we're talking Batman v Superman figures here.

Edit: and I thought Sully was a surprise hit.

You know looking at a few $55-75 million for most, So it may not be as financially devastating as I thought .
I think we're the real trouble is hanks damaged his image by being in people faces politically, he was a big obama cheerleader. I know people who are put off him because of it. I kind of mind him being a glory hog making movies about whichever the newest American hero turns out to be. But I'm not totally negative on hanks

Somehow he's got a image of putting out flops in a row. He's not had any big movies since toy story 3. Dunno
Still he's not the star he used to be apollo 13 to castaway.

He was? I never thought of him as being especially politically active. No more than is normal for Hollywood, anyway.

he didnt used to be, he's a big obama guy, Hillary supporter and trump hater now. He just donated coffee machines to the white house press pool to keep them on the toes watching trump or whatever.

That doesn't bother me too much but I do know people who detest him now because of politics. He is kind of smug though, not George Clooney smug, but smug.

Honestly actors should leave politics alone, 50% of the population is going to hate you no matter what. I think this is where the NFL messed up.
