That Hollywood Reporter article was a bit strange. Did Barbara Broccoli really steer the series "through multiple reinventions"? She only got to choose a Bond with Casino Royale, and then made the same film about eight times with him. Also Cubby Broccoli invented and built up the Bond film series not her. And she is hardly a hard worker making a Bond film every four years, plus the odd stage play with Craig.

Besides being creepy (which it most certainly is), it's also nonsensical at this stage. It's more akin to asking a woman at the divorce lawyer's office who her next husband is.

Hey Carl, it's hard work throwing stacks of money at a decrepit old actor and a sex pest director who hate the series, while relaxing poolside at a Jamaican resort!carl stromberg wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 6:00 pm That Hollywood Reporter article was a bit strange. James Bond bosses are reportedly clashing with Amazon bigwigs over plans for the action franchise. The streaming giant, which announced its plans to acquire MGM Studios in May, is said to be hoping to make several spin-offs from the film franchise. However Eon Productions, the British company that owns the rights to the James Bond films, is against the idea, reports The Sun. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/a ... chise.html
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I saw that story. It's weird because it's dated today, but talks about NTTD's release in the future tense.

Babzy is adamantly against it of course, as she'd have to get off her dead ass more than twice a decade. Obviously written shortly after Logan's "open letter" and shelved for some reason, running interference for EON?

Maybe, but you'd think they'd at least update it before publishing it.dirtybenny wrote: Obviously written shortly after Logan's "open letter" and shelved for some reason, running interference for EON?

Much better, though can we please have a moratorium on using the words "shaken" and "stirred" in Bond-related stories?

As the kids say, that's the current state of journalism bro.
Agreed, the over use of those terms leaves me shaken and not stirred.

When we first started here the news cycle would be kind of relevant, in the last 5-6 years it’s cut and past with no new quote or sourcing. Not just for bond or entertainment it seems most news stories are geared to be click bait.

Eon tried to use the marvel phase lingo years and years ago at a board meeting, i guess it was made public record or something, they/mgm was talking about phases in the bond franchise. Turns out they had only one phase and it was remaking the same stories of bond quitting over and over

Express Online is the worst site for Bond (and Doctor Who) clickbait. I don't even click on the links any more when one of their stories shows up in my newsfeed. They were the site that reported that Tom Hardy had officially been chosen as the new Bond before NTTD had even been released. Fool me once and all that.Omega wrote:When we first started here the news cycle would be kind of relevant, in the last 5-6 years it’s cut and past with no new quote or sourcing. I wonder if it isn’t publicist for the actors making headlines. But you’d think the news sites would want some shred of dignity for the next day.
Laziness is probably the answer. Easier to have a rumor from nameless sources who are trusted be the basis for a spike in webpage hits and ad revenue.
Off topic a little, one of our good friends was visiting and we are talking about how bad the new cycle has gotten, to me it’s a evolution of print media which had tabloids and sensational stories and storytellers to get subscribers/sell papers and magazines. A lot of famous writers got their start spinning stories in between their real jobs with the hopes of making real money in publishing. I’m thinking of Arthur Conan Doyle and others in the last 100-150 years. I guess we could include Ian Fleming in that list, bond was kind of a get rich scheme for him. Write thriller, get published, get rich. Of course there’s the rumor he was ask by the government to write positive fiction portraying British and American intelligence after the defection of top people in the early 1950s.

Link is broken but babs literally has zero ideas of what to do with the franchise. She gave marvel Tony stark because they felt she left it open for them. Before they thought the image of stark combined with gadgets would seem like they are ripping bond off.
Babs ripped off Batman begins and Bourne, I think she praying for the theater business to make a comeback to see what direction the wind is blowing.
Amazon could make the bond universe work as a marvel empire but only if the don’t follow Babs lead of everything is about the character, Fleming never wanted to stories to be about bond, so the secret brother architect of pain was a clear no go. They could do 006 up to the point he faked his death. But they cheapened the numbers.

Then ... a curveball. Smith asked if Bond could, perhaps, be non-binary ... and Broccoli didn't shut down the idea outright. She replied, "Who knows, I think it's open, you know? We just have to find the right actor."-----------this woman is a deranged lunatic Fleming's estate should sue her over defamation of his 'literary' character https://www.tmz.com/2021/12/12/james-bo ... ccoli-007/
