I will probably go with FYEO, as It my favourite Roger Moore Bond (by an ever so slight margin). But no matter which one I watch, I will do so with a large martini (made to Fleming's original recipe) and enjoy a large bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese (while I'm not at Shrublands I've been on a bit of a health kick this month so I think I deserve it) washed down with a nice Chianti (the red kind). Then an espresso and cigar to finish the evening off.
Now that my friend sounds like a d**n good time! You've got me considering a similar evening this weekend!

Dune is out here today, and it'll be interesting to see what effect it will have on NTTD's British and Irish takings (the UK and the Republic of Ireland are considered a single territory for box office purposes). If nothing else, it will knock Bond off most of the IMAX and other premium large-format screens. That would have an effect on NTTD's takings even if it sold exactly the same number of tickets as last week.

Cr-egg: “I think they’ve always mirrored politics and they’ve certainly mirrored the styles at the time. We’ve definitely had a lot of discussion between the producers, the directors and creatives involved about trying to push it in a direction that stays on the Bond path but make it work in the present time frame. One of the things I’m proudest of is that with this film, we’ve brought all of the characters up to his level, especially the female parts. As complicated and as f***ed up as he is, they interact with him in a very interesting way. We’ve definitely tried to push it in that direction without losing the spirit of a Bond movie but it kind of tries to strike that balance.”....................."When Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson approached me I thought, I think you might have the wrong guy. I’m not all of those things…the vodka martini and you know the “Bond, James Bond” line, I just said, “I don’t know if I can deliver those the way you want me to deliver them.” But they said, “No, just be patient.”.................."It’s probably up to other people to figure out my legacy. I’ve given everything I could and I’ve tried to put as much as I can into it and raise the bar as high as I could. With each film, I hope they work as a whole. There are five of them, there’s a narrative and they go from beginning to end. I’d like to think people will be watching them but who knows? I have children and what’s relevant to them is not going to be relevant to me is not going to be relevant to them in 10, 20 years time so we’ll see if they’re still around." https://hypebeast.com/2021/10/daniel-cr ... -interview#

Dune is the first movies post pandemic I wish we had a close imax to see. Done right it could be worth the imax price

Actor Alec Baldwin is facing criticism for a 2017 tweet he posted in which he questions "how it must feel to wrongfully kill someone. On Thursday, Baldwin, 63, was at the center of a Hollywood tragedy that unfolded on the set of the movie "Rust." Authorities said that Baldwin fired a prop gun on a movie set that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Director Joel Souza was identified as the crew member taken to the hospital. He has since been released, "Rust" star Frances Fisher claimed on Twitter.

Umm

Very interesting visuals in the new dune. Very French artistically. Which can be very entertaining and I usually like.
If you’re not a fan of the book probably skip this edition of dune.
If you know the story already then it’s a no brainer.

That's a strange way of putting it. Surely he's facing more criticism for shooting his DoP.

That whole story is weird. Gun safety in the military is d**n good, which is why many ex-military are hired as armorers. I don’t know who was responsible but they weren’t ex-military and they weren’t trained. My training was to always assume a gun is loaded then to verify by checking the chamber. No way in hell is one gun or three left on a cart loaded with blanks or live rounds. It’s a movie set, there’s time to double check before cameras role or rehearsing

What is weird to me is assuming one rogue shot is how two people got shot, statistically speaking there should be a chance of missing even at close range. To hit two people and kill one is odd. Circumstances have to be extremely close range or extremely rare happenstance.

Alec Baldwin will double down on his anti-gun crusade and now he say he’s speaking from experience.
Truth is whatever happened it’s misconduct on the movie set, whoever is to blame. It could be Baldwin’s fault. There is no real world parallels to take from this is that other than The importance of properly handling a weapon of any sort .

Baldwin is a producer on the movie, so the buck ultimately stops with him, even though he doesn't appear to be directly responsible for the accident.

Hard to say. I think Pierce had at least one more movie in him. I think that whatever happened, the next movie would be more down-to-earth, like OHMSS after YOLT, or FYEO after Moonraker.

In my opinion, I don't know it was so much securing the rights to CR rather than Babz wanting to cast away the old Bond and put her own stamp on things with her school girl crush Craig, I'd wager Brosnan was on the way out ether way, I just think having the "first Bond story" greased the path for her to argue with the studio for an origin story with her new actor.

Purvis and Wade have strongly implied that their first draft of CR was written for Brosnan, and wasn't a reboot, which rather gives the lie to the official line that securing the rights to CR effectively forced the reboot.

Hope you don't mind, I've moves these posts here, as they were a bit off-topic for the Weekly Rant thread.

Story of the casino royal rights is kind of weird. Sony ended up with them late 1990s, partnered with Kevin McClory who had thunderball rights to make a bond series of their own , they were immediately sued by mgm and eon, Sony and mgm settled with mgm trading their rights to Spider-Man for the rights to casino royale , both properties considered unfilmable . 1990s Marvel super hero movies we’re bad, Sony helped make it something with their Spider-Man movies a few years after getting Spider-Man rights.
Supposedly the first drat of casino royale was written for brosnan.

I'll defer to your knowledge gentlemen, to be honest I don't know much about the matter, I based my opinion on the slavish tongue bathing Babz gave Craig in their latest documentary.

Broccoli should consider this one to sing her next title song in 5 years, since it will take her that long to get off the Cr-egg hangover:

I just watched the 1967 In Like Flint on cable tv. It was based on space conquest, as was the 1967 YOLT. I find the 2 Flint films more entertaining than any Cr-egg Bond film. With Bezos a space hound, Broccoli might have to adapt her next script, if she even stays around. Her cold heart won't be into another new Bond.

I've been thinking for a while that if the next Bond continues in the same dour vein as the Craig films, someone should revive the Flint franchise. But who would play Flint? James Coburn had such a distinctive appearance that it's hard to think of anyone else who would qualify as a "James Coburn type."
