The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The tonight show with Jonny Cason I don't think will be a big factor. There is the nostalgia factor but its going to be old maybe dead guests talking about old movies, old comedians making off colors jokes for today's world .
Maybe I'm missing the point of the old tonight show

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yes, I agree. It's not like Johnny Carson has miraculously returned from the dead and is making new shows. They're not even "best of" compilations. Older people and hipsters might tune in out of nostalgia, as you say, and wannabe talk show hosts might want to study the master of the genre at work. But I can't imagine many people watching night after night. Ratings might improve on nights when Carson interviews some great movie star or sporting hero from the past. I suspect, though, that if they are simply rerunning complete shows, a lot of the interviews will be with people who have since been forgotten, and who will be of little interest to audiences in 2016.Omega wrote:The tonight show with Jonny Cason I don't think will be a big factor. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – 1.28
Jimmy Kimmel Live – 0.65
Late Night with Seth Meyers 0.62
Late Show with Stephen Colbert – 0.54
Stephen Colbert's late-night ratings slide has continued, and the heir to David Letterman's "Late Show" at CBS is now in fourth place. A Hollywood Reporter survey released last month showed that Colbert, already in third place at the time, is seen as skewing liberal while his 11:35 Eastern Time competitors are not. Colbert's viewers are heavily Democratic and atheist, while Fallon and ABC's Jimmy Kimmel draw a more diverse audience, about one third Republican, Democratic and independent.

Those figures were for the previous week, and were only for viewers aged 18-49. Colbert's viewing figures among that demographic were equal with Myers in the most recent chart, and higher overall both weeks.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
18-49 is all they care about here these days for advertisers. This was 3 days ago: 11:35 p.m:
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”: 1.1/5, 3.0/7
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” – R: 0.6/3, 1.9/5
“Late Show with Stephen Colbert”: 0.4/2, 2.1/5
12:35 a.m.
“Late Night with Seth Meyers” – R: 0.7/4, 1.6/5-----------"Repeats" of Kimmel and Myers did better than a "new" Colbert. He's done, and rather quickly. NBC canned Conan quickly once he tanked too.

True up to a point (though how many 18-49 year olds do you think will be watching the Johnny Carson reruns?) If the plan was to bring in a younger viewership, then these figures are probably somewhat disappointing, though not disastrous.

Personally I think bringing Colbert on late night was a mistake, he's a one trick pony who's uber Bill O'Reilly shtick wore thin years ago. (So has O'Reilly's but at least it's his own.) I guess the network was trying to tap in to that Daily Show demographic but couldn't get Jon Stewart.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
With all the hubbub over changes in late-night TV during the past two years, Compton had the idea to revive Carson’s “Tonight Show” in a big way. Carson Entertainment Group, headed by Jeff Sotzing, Carson’s nephew, was immediately receptive.
“I think there’s a demographic out there that is really going to eat this up,” Sotzing told Variety. “The show will now be able to be seen by so many people who haven’t seen it before.”
The deal involved nearly six months of negotiations with Hollywood’s talent guilds and the American Federation of Musicians. The talks were complicated because there’s not much precedent for residual fees for full-length reruns of a vintage variety show re-airing on a digital broadcast channel. The “Tonight Show” project has been a labor of love for Compton, who has screened hundreds of episodes to prepare for assembling the themed packages. The plan is for Antenna to be nimble in programming episodes on short notice to respond to headlines and current events.
“With Johnny you just have everything,” Compton enthused. “On the night of (the 2016) Indy 500, we’ll have an episode of Johnny talking about about the race. On Christmas Eve, we’ll have an episode with Jimmy Stewart telling stories about the making of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ Our possibilities are endless.”

Now this is something. This makes more sense to make than Thomas Crown 2.

It can't be any worse than Star Trek Into Darkness. They appear to be going for a Guardians of the Galaxy atmosphere with that trailer.

Drakester! It's been a while! Simon Pegg explicitly said that they were going for a Marvel vibe with the new movie, which seems wrong for Star Trek somehow. The movie looks quite fun, but they do seem to be making the same mistake as Bond, chasing a new audience but throwing the long-time fans under the bus.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I'm glad to see the pomposity and gloom of the Star Trek Into Darkness teasers is missing. If they insist on making more 'Nu Trek' I can see how a Marvel approach and bigger sense of fun wouldn't be a bad idea. Yeah, the old Star Trek and Bond films were much better. If something goes on for long enough someone will ruin it in the end.

How many times can Bond begin a film as a rooke, and end... still a rookie (but with the promise that in the next film, he'll be the "Bond we know and love", but never is)?Omega wrote:how many times can Kirk lose his ship and crew ?FormerBondFan wrote:There's something really off about this:

ID 2 looks like its gonna be a smash hit. Didn't think much to that trailer for the new Star Trek though, that music seemed very out of place, doesn't give off any excitement!
Anyway, i'll be off to see SW7 later this week.
