bjmdds wrote:What is the P&A expense for ECH-TRE? $100 million? $150 million? It wraps up this weekend in Japan so there should be an actual total revealed by SONY/EON/MGM, or do they fudge the numbers and hide the truth? If they received $100 million in product placement, that cut their outlay from $350 million total production budget to $250 million. If you add on the P&A, it comes to at least $350 million required to get it to the screens so at 50% from the USA, 40% overseas, and 25% from China, I estimate they received $310 million so far in box office return from the ticket purchases.
These are the numbers: PRODUCTION ONLY BUDGET WAS between $300 mln and $350 mln
ADVERTISING is MINIMUM $120 mln, probably nearer to $150 mln
That makes a total of $420-500 mln.
Even MINUS the product placement cash (NO WAY that is $100 mln btw) it means they have in between $320-400 mln to make up for.
So it's the usual thing. A BILLION dollars at the box office is just to BREAK EVEN, and only for the lower spectrum, because if it's nearer to 400 mln they need 1.2 bln just to break even.
We've already shown how a BILLION DOLLAR GROSSING harry potter movie LOST money for the studio, so I don't intend to go get that data again. Either people keep up with information or they don't. And if they don't then they shouldn't be talking about budgets and figures, quite simply. I know you do keep up and remember, BJ.
So it's this simple. See what the total gross is and then calculate accordingly.

When a movie studio spends the most money it ever did on a film, and the result is at least a quarter of a billion dollars less at the box office, do changes get made, or does an obsession lead to a continuance of the downfall of the future film produced in the series?

Well, I can't imagine investors are going to keep pouring money down the drain. Expect the next film to have a much smaller budget.

The thing they used to say about Bond was "You could see the money on the screen" I didn't see that with Spectre. The whole thing came off so cheaply done. EON will have a job trying to secure anywhere near as big a paycheck next time out.

A source told the Mirror: ‘Guy has had a run of box office successes but it was The Man From U.N.C.L.E that really caught the Bond producers’ eye. ‘The film had many of the elements associated with 007. Guy created a world of espionage and action with a bit of comedy. He’s the frontrunner for the next Bond movie – for now.’ Image Image It's about time Broccoli :!:

Oh,so now they know what Bond movie should be more like?

Anyway, this says Mendes is out of the game with his "artistic"crap and "I'm above Bond movies" vibe. The question is-will Barbara force that same approach on Ritchie(if he truly gets the job).
And then,of course, there is the question of Craig staying or finally leaving.

I wouldn't place too much stock in stories about the next Bond film at this stage. EON aren't Marvel, they don't plan films 10 years ahead. You're lucky if they plan 10 weeks ahead.

Between watching any of his Bond films and dentist...
I choose the dentist. He is not scowling all the time and acting all angry and depressed for no reason.

This Guy Ritchie thing sounds like a load of rubbish to me.
C'mon, it will be early Spring 2016 before the film makers (who ever they will be) even think about the next Bond film.

Strangely, did anyone else notice recently that Mendes has started complaining that he wasn't given enough time on making SP?

no surprise there. He made a mess of a movie. Not that he had a finished script. He also was editing it just weeks before release .

They also stopped mentioning qos when it became apparent it

Mendes, did mention something about the script, but was mainly complaining about the time schedule pressure that was put upon him.

I think, that after the UK media generally praised his film, it must of been quite a shock to Mendes, when many US reviews of the film were somewhat mediocre at best, and is now trying to give a reason as to why the film under performed in North America.

For the next film, then the production of the film should start even earlier, or if not they should do what they did with TND, and put the release date back.

It would also be a good idea if EON actually have a script, before shooting starts.

I get the impression that the priorities in the pre-production of Bond films is somewhat of a mess.

it's got to be rough trying to finish a movie with no time to fix it in editing .

It wasn't just the us who didn't care for SP. it just too the uk press longer to catch up I don't think there will be a bond movie released in the uk that is not universally loved and set records .

But I'd be shocked if eon is actually going to do the real work to make bond 25 ready before production begins shooting

EON makes one film every 3-4 years, for them not to be well done is inexcusable. The old guard knocked them out every 1-2 years and built an empire, I have to wonder what's going on at the production offices between films!

Cr-egg is servicing Broccoli's desires in the offices DB. ECH-TRE set a one week record in the UK-------BUT, has tailed off to be $30 million behind SK-Awful overall now there. Once people got a whiff of this skunk Bond film, they did not return to the scene of the crime. Mendes' ego is now bruised.

Yeah, tickets went on sale about 6 weeks before the film opened here, and the official Facebook page was filled with excited comments from people pumped about going to see it on opening night. Even allowing for the fact that some of these people were probably paid shills, I thought at the time that the studio knew they had a turkey on their hands and were trying to front-load it as much as possible before word got around.
