The ratings were up a little ..probably because there was a lot of people investing in the ceremony to see if they won(or not )last night.

With the final numbers in, 19.5M viewers tuned in to watch the 2024 Oscars, according to Nielsen data. That’s a 4% win over the 18.8 million who tuned in for the 95th annual Academy Awards in 2023, propelling the show to a 4-year audience high.

Recent James Bond films starring Daniel Craig have shown more of Bond's emotions, and there will be more changes coming in the next films. Broccoli said the fictional character, known for his womanizing in earlier entries, is "evolving just as men are evolving."----------------Men are? Or is she referring to her EMASCULATION of the character by her?

Just heard about this https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/fast_charlie action movie starring Pierce playing a hitman. Anyone seen it?
It's another low budget film. Seems like this one's picking up some good reviews.

This website has more interest in the future of the Bond franchise than EON obviously does and they get FREE online publicity keeping things hanging and Broccoli is happy she is not irrelevant at this juncture.

LICENCE TO KICK-ASS British hunk formally offered role of James Bond and ‘will sign contract this week’ to take over from Daniel Craig
BRIT actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson is taking his martinis shaken, not stirred, after being formally offered the job as the new James Bond. Insiders said the Kick-Ass movie star is expected to accept the role as 007, taking over from Daniel Craig, who has played MI6’s most famous spy for 15 years. Eon Productions, which makes the spy thriller films, is on course to start shooting this year.

A source said: “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back. As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.” The next Bond movie had been delayed because of last year’s Hollywood strikes. But insiders confirmed a script was now being worked on, with production scheduled to take place at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Aaron, 33, was in the running for the top job alongside actors including Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and James Norton.
Today, bookie Coral changed the odds on Aaron taking on the famous role — first played by Sean Connery in 1962’s Dr No — and made him favourite at 2/1. When asked last week whether he would step into Bond’s shoes, Aaron said: “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”

In 2022, The Sun revealed that he was in the running for the job after secretly screen testing for Bond movie supremo Barbara Broccoli at Pinewood Studios. Aaron, who is from High Wycombe, Bucks, made a name for himself starring in the Kick-Ass and Avengers movies. He started his acting career in 2000’s The Apocalypse, opposite Richard Harris, and appeared in 2008 teen movie Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging and 2022’s Bullet Train with Brad Pitt. Insiders said Aaron’s performance as a psychopath in 2016 thriller Nocturnal Animals, which saw him win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, opened the door to the Bond role.

The Aaron Taylor-Johnson story is picking up traction now. It's on the BBC and news channels. Nothing from the Deadline/Variety insider type sites though. Could be absolute nonsense. Reminds me a bit though of how many months out from Casino Royale the newspapers kept saying that Daniel Craig was the producers' number one choice and although I didn't believe it at the time that DID turn out to be accurate. From what I can gather, this is the evidence for Aaron Taylor-Johnson...

1) Aaron Taylor-Johnson was at an Omega event last year.

2) Aaron Taylor-Johnson's wife is friends with Barbara Broccoli and has done some work for Eon.

3) Aaron Taylor-Johnson went on holiday to the West Indies recently and visited Goldeneye.

4) Aaron Taylor-Johnson did an interview for German GQ a few weeks ago. The magazine noted in their introduction that they were not allowed to ask him any questions about James Bond.

5) Picking an actor without doing endless auditions and interviews for months on end is out of character for Eon but the online theory is that Amazon put pressure on them to shorten the casting process and just identify the person they (and by 'they' we mean Barbara) generally liked the most - which was Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

This is (for what it is worth) the video The Sun put out to confirm their alleged scoop.

I just think that with all such rumours, it's only official when it's official. Unless and until there's an announcement from EON, I shall treat it as just another bogus Bond casting story.

I'm doubtful too. If this story was accurate there would have to be some sort of announcement in days and weeks. In reality we'll probably be sitting here this time next year still with no idea who the next Bond is. This story in the Daily Mail today about Aaron Taylor-Johnson having a planning dispute over a lake (or something) did make me laugh though in the way the media are just acting as if this is all true. This is how the article was headlined:

New 007 Aaron Taylor-Johnson is locked in a row with his local council after excavating lake at his 16th century farmhouse without permission. Can you get yourself out of this hole, Mr Bond?

This rumor has it all, an official offer, bookies' odds, "the job is his if he wants it," screen tests, it even slips in a mention of Idris Elba!

I get it..since he’s quite a bit younger than DC was when he became Bond. However, he’s still too pretty for my liking.

He's not my first choice, but I won't be too upset if the story turns out to be true. There are much worse options out there.

On the face of it I would agree, however don't forget his legal guardian/wife will be two steps behind him, she's Babz Broccoli 2.0, in fact she and Babz are good friends and it was her who directed the gender bending "woman's day special" referenced in my signature! So while he may have "the look" the films will be more of the same non-Bond fare.

Sadly, that's likely to be true whoever plays Bond. If she's already friends with Babbzy and directing segments for EON, then her husband playing Bond is kind of immaterial. It's not as if having a different actor is going to change anything in that regard. Plus, they have to adapt to changing public tastes. If they brought back Rapey Bond from the '60s, audiences would stay away in droves.

True words Kris, however my point is whether or not she's tapped to direct, if her husband is the star, she'll be sitting on set right next to Babz whispering in her ear like a Eudaemon from Greek mythology. How much farther are they going to "adapt" the character? It's already unrecognizable, which is why (like all of us here), I'm not holding my breath whomever they cast. And I got some bad news for ya, they already brought back "rapey Bond" his name was Craig-Bond and he's most recognizable in Skyfall and Spectre where he has his way with a human trafficking victim and forces himself on a grieving widow respectively. The former example evoking the "Pussy Galore Barn Scene" in Goldfinger but putting it to shame in the forced relations department considering Pussy showed (unlike the widow) she was quite capable of fighting back!
