The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Apparently, one of the hosts of the popular Bond podcast SMERSHpod just tweeted out the single word "Nah" in response to the new film.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
My opinion has deteriorated even further now. I think its the worst of the Craig era. Babs was so obsessed in giving us the emotional Bond, now with a child to support too, that it is far removed from the franchise it once was. Horrendous.bjmdds wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:29 pmSweenster, I knew you would return......but will Bond? Superb action? Fairly decent plot? Cr-egg nailed it? Nailed what? A tired looking bore surrounded by terrible actors that could make paint peel? I think you have been away far too long and need re-programming on this franchise. IF you think this plot was worth watching, then you have fallen into the Broccoli kool-aid brigade. This film is HORRENDOUS We all know the ending here Sweeney and it was ridiculous. Continuity to what now? Are we to assume the prior 16 years never happened, ala Bobby Ewing's demise on the Dallas tv show? It will be forgotten quickly as the ultimate insult to most Bond fans. Come back more often and enjoy the discussions.......after all, we have all the time in the world!.......The Sweeney wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 6:29 am Saw it last night. I have very mixed feelings about it.
Action - superb. Probably the best we've seen in the series.
Plot - fairly decent, keeps in line with Bond traditions
Craig - nails it, knocks it out of the park with his performance (sorry guys).
BUT (and a big but)....
The ending. I've never felt this disappointed watching a movie. It kills everything that was great leading up to it. So unnecessary. Cubby will be turning in his grave at what they've done to his franchise.
Why couldn't they have just had the balls to continue with the YOLT storyline right to the end. An amnesia ridden Bond, not knowing anymore who he is, lost and sailing off to Russia. That would still have given them the shock tragedy ending they were looking for, instead of the stupid dumbass thing they've done instead. You don't kill off a cash cow like this. There is nowhere to go now.
The franchise needs a serious overhaul after this, a complete reboot, including the backroom team, because they have clearly run out of steam.
The film is so bad, it has put me off the Craig era entirely. I can now see his set of films for what they are. Self indulgent, thespian fantasy for Craig and Babs, at the expense of Fleming and her father. We need new producers in.

First they insult the fans of the old Bonds then they insult the Daniel Craig fans. I find it all very sad.

Sweeney, you just did a 180 reversal in 2 days! You loved it and now you don't? McBride, this should be the 7th 007: Sweener, what is your opinion of Broccoli producing Macbeth in 6 months on Broadway with her boy toy?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I think this review is fairly predictable attempt at a feminist opinion piece on the movie which concerns itself with analyzing the clothing choices of the female characters and praises it for Bond's monogamy and the fact that he disrobes more frequently than the female characters!

and, best of all:I didn't really enjoy the film; it seemed tired, confused and all a bit pointless. Best bit was where M says, during a crisis, 'I need to call the PM' - I don't know why I was the only one in the cinema who laughed out loud at that.
Lynch has a one dimensional character, that she can't really do anything with. Malek seems to mistake speaking slowly for villainy. Ana de Armas was good and I wish she'd been in the film for longer.
Craig's role is to look pained and suffer, they should have called the film 'The Passion of the Bond'

I thought Sweeney's original comment was fairly ambivalent, he liked some things but not others. But I do wonder what brought about this change of heart. Did you see the film again, or is it just one of those cases where the more you think about a film, the more faults you find with it?bjmdds wrote:Sweeney, you just did a 180 reversal in 2 days! I think Sweeney had a more positive feel for spectre at first or maybe that was skyfall?
Some films get worse the longer you live with them. There a few I had a positive feel for but watching at home or with family the movie just didn’t work for me. Probably because I had time to think about the plot and motivations. Fantastic beasts 2 for example, original movie was just about perfect, two was a interesting ride until the ride stops and you can ask WTF! Was that supposed to be?
Anyway
Good to see you Sweeney!

I watched it again last night with some friends (the ticket had already been bought last week). All my friends hated it, and with a second viewing I really began to see what a piece of trash this movie now is.Kristatos wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:11 pmI thought Sweeney's original comment was fairly ambivalent, he liked some things but not others. Its despicable what Babs has done to the franchise. This film highlights everything that was wrong with the Craig era, something I wasn't really aware of until now. I feel like watching something like Moonraker again just to cleanse my soul.

I am shocked beyond belief by your epiphany Sweeeeeeeeeeeney We started this internet voyage together 15 years ago when your MI6 alternate reality Jet Set Willy was posting. It took you this long to FINALLY realize that this forum is where you really belonged and that we here, knew it from day one, what Broccoli was doing to her daddy's marvelous franchise. Welcome aboard the anti-Cr-egg internet train Sweeney Mission---------accomplished ..........and do NOT fly to NYC to see Broccoli's production of Macbeth starring Cr-egg next spring Her obsession with demeaning men on film, yet loving Cr-egg as her boy toy to control, is her sick paradox of femininity that has ruined Bond. Amazon MUST buy her out and rid the franchise of her influence once and for allThe Sweeney wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:32 pmI watched it again last night with some friends (the ticket had already been bought last week). Welcome back, Sweeney. I always enjoy reading your posts.
Good choice in Moonraker, because I mentioned before that years ago I was quick to dismiss Moonraker based on Bond-in-space being ridiculous, yet after seeing two or three of Craig's movies and watching Moonraker again I was delighted and surprised at how well-written and engaging it was in comparison. Sure, it's pure fantasy but it's exciting and fun throughout. The Sweeney wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 8:32 pm Its despicable what Babs has done to the franchise. Yeah I think that happened to me with the Star Trek reboot. I really tried to watch it with an open mind and really wanted to like it and so while I was watching it I didn't think it was too bad. There were interesting ideas like the parallel universe and of course the return of Nimoy. The more I thought about it though as well as, I admit, agreeing with other people's criticisms, the less I liked it and I now think it's a cash-in that has little to do with what Trek used to be.

Couple of things:First of all, I do NOT trust anything Rotten Tomatoes posts now(see also:Yelp.)
Second:This is a divisive movie. That much is obvious from what I’m reading elsewhere.”True” Bond fans ripping those who didn’t like the movie a new one Opinions are like a certain part of the anatomy.Everyone has one.
