$400-$450 mil costs are ridiculous, the production companies need to realize spending that much is wasted money. They made Casino Royal for $200 mil adjusted for inflation, that's about the max they should spend. I bet they'd get much closer to that figure if they ditched his royal cragginess and his inflated price tag. Not to mention their obsession with "art house" directors and actors in supporting roles who demand the earth to lower themselves to work on such "low brow dreck."
Babs as soon as cubby died jacked up producers fees taking a big chunk out off the top before profits. Dad last know movie their fee were published it was $32 million, out of $142 million budget. Brosnan was paid they say now approximately $16 million, so almost $50 million was blown for nothing much in return.

I remember reading when we had someone dump a bunch of the numbers it was$10-11 million salary for dad, maybe gbp? There was some sort of bounty’s after dad did well. They say he wanted $20 million for bond 21 , mgw later admitted the salary wasn’t a issue. Brosnan said it wasn’t much off the dad salary.
Eon tried to say it was too much and rebooted. They used gbp (76 million gbp?) to try to say they cut the budget but when exchanged it was more than dads cost. So they still got their producers fees up front.

Long way to go to get back to where we started , I wouldn’t be surprised producers fees weren’t north of $50 million for nttd.

Btw the highest paid bond ever was Connery, unpublicized but he walked off set on gold finger or thunderball, said he hurt his back and needed to heal , production started up again when he got a % of the bo. 1960s money but adjusted he made out like a bandit. Even DAF where Connery gave his salary to charity he made more than the $1million he gave away from his cut of the us bo.

Crowdfunding campaign started to buy the rights to NTTD. Unfortunately, this piece is written by the annoying Stuart Heritage, a man who thinks he's a lot funnier than he actually is: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2020/o ... nalise-007

Kind of funny.
Just hit me how shaky Babs has made the franchise, maybe it should be nationalized.
It also hits me how stupid the rabid bond fans how lick Babs and mgw’s boot are, assuming this wasn’t eons attempt at viral marketing.

Supposedly mgm was never all that serious in the streaming talks, although I think mgm probably was a lot more serious than eon as it was Babs who demanded $600 million price tag which everybody now recognizes is about what the studio would make back only if nttd was bigger than spectre.
There’s a point where mgm has to either sell nttd or declare it a loss. Traditionally movies held for a long time just never gain traction which probably doesn’t apply to covid era, but mgm has to be thinking get this out into the market before it’s on YouTube because Babs sent out promo copies or someone at one of the studios involved uploads it just because they can.

I can only see Apple getting NTTD if they simply buy out MGM as a whole.

Honestly, MGM could use a parent company like Apple, and a major change in management. They've been floundering for decades with their only plans outside of Bond being remakes. The only one of those I liked was the reboot for TOMB RAIDER, and now the sequel has been put on hold during all this.

So, there's a David Bowie biopic coming out where they're not allowed to use any of his music, and Bowie is played by a guy who looks and sounds nothing like him. It looks...fascinating, in the way that staring at a train wreck is fascinating:

Not even going to bother watching the video.

I suspect this movie is trying to cash in on the success of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY and ROCKETMAN. I was not a fan of either.

Tomb raider was a fun movie, wasn’t aware it earned a sequel.

Apple and MS have both played with the idea of owning a studio. MS because Sony had one.

Apple fell behind the last few tech changes with Apple TV, not that it isn’t good, they lost ground to fire stick and roku and other streaming services. Apple had innovated the digital locker first and at one point were one of the best places to redeem digital codes. When they joined Disney’s movies anywhere it was because they had to, they followed where the people were going and hope to get them back to watching content on apple devices.
I could see apple since they have more than enough money want their own source for unique content, they could start their own studio or buy a slightly used one.

That’s awful. did Bowie’s estate find out and bam the use of his music?

Probably as Staring frog said trying to jump on the music biopic fade, guess walk the line kind of legitimize them

Yes, Duncan Jones, Bowie's son and a successful filmmaker in his own right, found out and has publicly disavowed the film, including denying permission for the use of the music. That could be because he's working on his own project--not a biopic, but a animated musical based on his father's songs, written by Neil Gaiman and directed by one of the guys who did Into the Spider-Verse--which I'm sure will be much better than this travesty.

Screenrant.com: James Bond needs to be fun again when Daniel Craig leaves the spy franchise behind. 007's 25th outing No Time to Die is finally hitting cinemas in 2021, but when Daniel Craig is replaced in the role of the super-spy the series needs to return to the tone of its sillier, more fun earlier years. It would be almost impossible for the James Bond series to delve into even darker territory than Craig's Casino Royale 007 origin story did without also losing the essential levity, humor, and goofiness that makes 007’s franchise so appealing, so the opposite approach would be the best way to reinvent the series for a new Bond. Pierce Brosnan’s debut in the role saw the James Bond franchise lighten its tone significantly after the heavier Dalton outings and win over critics in the process, as a more suave and less psychologically damaged Bond doesn’t necessarily have to mean a less impactful version of the character or a less dramatic film.

Good rant not as good as DB but glad screen rant is at least starting to admit there’s trouble with the current era.

I’d love if a new actor takes up the role and just does like dalton and brosnan did when they got the roll, problem is there is so much baggage from the Craig era most lazy writers see the only way out as reboot to the 50s

I think it's quite obvious the next iteration will have a lighter tone. That's how it worked for every other actor. It's a way to allow the new actor not be unfairly compared to his predecessor. With LALD there were serious efforts to have Roger Moore be seen in his own light by avoiding things that would have reminded audiences of Connery, and it worked. Quite the opposite of how OHMSS tried to lay it thick with "this is the very same Bond!"

RIP Sir Sean Connery. A great actor and the ideal Bond.

I don't think the Bond flicks would have attained quite the same iconic status with a lesser actor without the talent and charisma of Sir Sean.

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I didn't realize he was already 90 years old! It was a good age but sad news and d**n doesn't time fly. :(
