I mentioned a couple of moths ago I was reading some alternate history. I started reading it again; the Bond related bit are: Roger Moore has been taken hostage by the IRA. The producers decide to continue the Bond franchise with Colonel Sun and Timothy Dalton as Bond. With a frostier Cold War, the Chinese decide to kill Dalton and halt the production of the film. I've just got to the point where Roger Moore has been released by the IRA.
Sounds interesting, What's the name of it?
Colour me intrigued who wrote it?
It's called "Fear, Loathing and Gumbo on the Campaign Trail '72" by 'Drew.' It's mostly about politics but with some cultural bits thrown in. You can read it here: http://www.alternatehistory.com/discuss ... p?t=150154
Thank you!

NM is only in 418 theatres this weekend and it's USA run is all but over. We await the UK numbers November 7.

Speaking of Pierce's films, how much would The Moon and the Sun (released in April 10, 2015) make worldwide? Paramount is its distributor.

this one maybe something special the talent behind it makes it a instant classic even if it's not done right. The names involved are big in the Asian movie community. It's low budget because the art of movie making hasn't been completely lost. I'm optimistic it will be do well here.

Pierce hasn't had a really great film that appealed to the wider audience since GE. NM could have broken the mold, but like everything Pierce did after GE, it ends up in the pool of either not-so-great reviews or under radar territory.

GE was not rated R. If he does a NM sequel, the violence should be toned down to make it a PG-13 rating.

Making it PG-13 won't change a thing. Look what happened to EX3.

bjmdds wrote:The Luther actor, who recently portrayed Nelson Mandela in a biopic about the former South African president, made the claim in a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session over the weekend.

Asked by one user if he would take on the role of 007 if it was offered to him, Elba said: “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely”.

Rumours have long been circulating that 42-year-old Elba is set to be the next Bond after Craig’s tenure comes to an end. Craig is currently cast in forthcoming films Bond 24 and Bond 25.

I like Idris as an actor I particular enjoy his performance as Luther, but I don't think he is a good choice for Bond. Not so much because of his race as I don't have a problem with a black actor as Bond per se, however I do have the same problem that Mr. Elba himself expressed in an earlier interview concerning a black actor in the role. Which would be he will be seen as the "Black Bond" rather than just "Bond". My real problem with Idris as Bond would be he has some of the short comings Craig has, specifically he's a little too rough, I believe the British term is "common". I am mulling a rant that will cover this very subject unfortunately as much as I love posting here, it doesn't pay the bills, if only I could find a way to make my Bond passion earn me money.

NO Idris, right FBF? If they ever choose a black Bond the Sweeney will return here and lead the insurrection personally against Eon.

Who cares about how Bond looks like anymore? You know that already. Based on SF's nonsensical success and recognition and especially with the Queen B1tch in control, anyone or anything can be Bond now. You might as well cast a robot as Bond.

Well, it would have a better Bond, but its other flaws would still remain.
I have not had much to say. Skyfall was better than expected, not the misstep I though it would be. Not as good as Casino Royale either still I suppose when Quantum of Solace is the low point nearly any story would be welcome.

My main problem with Skyfall is I don't see Daniel Craig's James Bond as the same one introduced in Casino Royale. It is as if the two movies are from different series instead of a continuation. Long delays will do this I suppose.
Since I see a disconnect in Daniel Craig's James Bond it made me consider how the movie would be with another proven James Bond actor. Obviously some of the flaws in the story would remain over all I believe another actor would be a welcome improvement.

If Daniel Craig can work within the more traditional Bond framework remains to be seen. The movies are slowly being dragged back to where they started which is where I see Daniel Craig's abilities lacking. In Casino Royale he was good at how they played it, this is how the next movies should have progressed keeping his character and his world. The following films each have take a different take on the character instead of cementing it.

The previous James Bonds were essentially the same character while not exactly interchangeable they were all capable of preforming the movies of a successor or predecessor. While I feel Daniel Craig is not.

What changed over the years before the reboot was the series more than the character the actors played. Roger Moore was not all that different from Sean Connery's take on James Bond what was different was how the series packaged the stories. I think the complaints previous James Bond actors received at their heart were criticisms about how the movies were packaged, instead of how the character James Bond was played.

This pretty much changed with Daniel Craig, he started out with a movie tailored to him, each movie since has been a confusing take on what should be a custom character. I don't think the movies were changed to be in line with the books, I would argue against Daniel Craig being the ideal James Bond. In many ways he is the antithesis. What he was brilliant at was playing a "other world" James Bond, just edgy enough to be shocking and refreshing. Somehow none of the subsequent movies can capture this. I can only guess it is because they had no ideas how to continue it. Perhaps it is the actor who is lacking and Casino Royale is a fluke of editing, managing to somehow stitch together a coherent performance.
I've looked though Daniel Craig's other movies for another brilliant preference from him and have not come close.

Well it looks as if I dredged up a bunch of history just to say Pierce Brosnan would be better in Skyfall. I doubt I'll have much to add before the next movie is out. :)

I thought they already had. And Brosnan in Skyfall would be only slightly less pants than it is. We'd have more smarm and painface, neither of which I want to see in Bond again.

The biggest problem with Idriss is that hed be too old for Bond by the time Craig hangs up the PPK.

Well it's your lucky day Omega new rant posted. I forced myself to make time and sit down to rant. And your absolutely right Idris is 10000 times cooler than Craig, but he still comes off a bit rough, which is great for a hard boiled detective, but not so great for Bond.
