Correction: estimates are going up, now the figure for Friday is $15 mln
Now that sounds like my thoughts of today's World of Bond, which is nothing this:bondoholic wrote:There's a pandemic caused by Craigella Babsiensis, a dangerous virus that turns people into zombies that want to spread the infection.
$15 million seems impressive. I still do not know what it is supposed to be about from the advertisements.Alessandra wrote:So. Immortals opened WELL ABOVE any expectation. The data is in and they opened at over $14 million on Friday and they're expected to be the no.1 weekend movie with $36 million, which is a BIG opening in general these days. Biggest opening gross in 2011 for any R-rated action movie. This is about TWICE AS MUCH what was expected. Well done, Henry. And, regardless of mixed reviews, the one thing everyone agrees on is Henry Cavill is great. So there we go. This could have been happening for BOND. d**n you Babs

LOL it's quite confusing in the ads, I agree. But it's basically Theseus (Cavill) and the Minotaur. It's an adaptation of that.Blowfeld wrote:$15 million seems impressive. Seems pretty clear to me. Certainly better than the advertising for The Rum Diaries, which gives no indication of what the film is about or even what genre it is in, being content to simply tell you that Johnny Depp is in it, in the hope that this fact alone will be enough to persuade people to see it.Alessandra wrote: LOL it's quite confusing in the ads, I agree. LOL agreed! And it wouldn't work for me since (unpopular opinion, I know) I never liked Johnny Depp all that much. I find him entertaining (albeit quite disgusting) in the Pirates movies, but that's it. And no, I NEVER found him even remotely attractive. Not my type at all. So yeah, sell me a movie like that, and it's guaranteed I'll never consider going to the cinema and checking it out LOLKristatos wrote:Seems pretty clear to me. The ad basically say if you like the 300 this is the movie for you.Alessandra wrote:LOL agreed! And it wouldn't work for me since (unpopular opinion, I know) I never liked Johnny Depp all that much. The stupid thing is, The Rum Diaries is based on a book by Hunter S Thompson and is from the director of Withnail & I (a movie that has a huge cult following here in the UK). So that's two pre-sold audiences that the UK marketing campaign completely fails to target.Alessandra wrote: LOL agreed! Where did you read that EA? That PROVES our perpetual points from an actual insider and I would bet Ale's front row tickets to see The Man Of Steel that the green vegetable is FURIOUS at the dame nowEnglish Agent wrote:There was an interesting interview with Dame Judy Dench in one of the British Sunday papers today............Dench said she likes Craig as Bond, but her favourite was Pierce Brosnan, and she says she misses him. EA
Oh you make that bet because that is a CERTAIN win! Finally someone telling the truth? Dame Judi irked me going back and forth in her comments, but this is the most adherent to truth most likely. She has to say she likes Daniel ok of course (no matter what her feelings on him are, and she probably actually does like him) but at least she DID tell the truth about Pierce being her favorite. Sure as hell she misses him, want to try what it's like to work with a grumpy primadonna as opposed to working with a nice, charming actor's actor man like Pierce? Come on now.bjmdds wrote:Where did you read that EA? Excellent, I wonder what all the Craig minions are sayinghttp://www.people.co.uk/2011/11/13/dani ... -23557714/ Here is the article EA. I found it. Good work EA. Dench quietly lets us know that Danielle is no Brosnan. FBF, this is for you. Plaster this article on the front page of all anti-eggster websites![]()
The $15 mln is confirmed, as is the fact Immortals is going to be the no.1 movie of the weekend with grosses between $32 and $38 mln. It sure as hell is already doing way better than C&A because it had a budget of $75 mln and they spent $50 mln on advertising.. as opposed to a budget of $165 mln and over $100 mln to advertise.. so it cost LESS THAN HALF and it had more viewers on Friday and may rake in about the same or or a bigger gross over the whole weekend. Also, Immortals is the no.1 movie in the UK, Russia and Greece as well this weekend. This is Henry's ticket... first big movie out, major success. I am so glad for him. And what's more interesting is the crowd that's going to see it, because that crowd? Is the crowd BOND targets as well:$15 million is awesome! It ought to do $40 millions if CvA did $36. CvA barely did $13 million its first day and finished with $100 million but cost $165, Immortals will do better I think.
More:The audience for "Immortals" was composed largely of young males, a demographic that has proved difficult to lure into theaters in recent months. About 66% of the audience -- 75% of which was younger than 35, and 60% of which was male -- opted to shell out a few extra bucks to watch the movie in 3-D. The film attracted a diverse crowd, as roughly 35% of the audience was Hispanic. Moviegoers assigned "Immortals" an average grade of B, according to market research firm CinemaScore -- the same score that both "Jack and Jill" and "J. Edgar" received this weekend.
They left out a part: the producers already explained that all they needed was a $25 mln starting weekend abroad to make profits from the abroad sales. Which means since they're on their way to raking in $36 mln, that they're already profitable in abroad markets.Immortals," set in ancient Greece and starring future "Superman" Henry Cavill, was produced by the filmmakers behind the 2006 blockbuster "300."
"Immortals" will fail to generate the kind of revenues that film did, however," as "300" ended up raking in more than $450 million worldwide. This weekend, "Immortals" opened internationally in 35 foreign markets, collecting an estimated $36 million. The film performed especially well in the United Kingdom, Russia and Greece, claiming the No. 1 spot in each country. Relativity is not self-releasing the film overseas, however -- the company presold the film to a number of foreign distributors, minimizing the upside if "Immortals" is successful abroad.
Those are Henry Cavill's numbers. With a movie, I'd underline, produced by an INDEPENDENT company and distributed by it, not by a mega monster like WB or Sony. AND on top of that, they had ACTUAL competition since Adam Sandler usually rakes in a LOT of money. And the third one is a Di Caprio movie. This is Sandler's worst-grossing movie so far, but that doesn't change the fact that especially the first weekend, people would go check it out so it was serious competition for Immortals. And yet Immortals is winning.(Isabel Lucas Online) Box Office Report: 'Immortals' Scores $15 Mil Friday for Likely $35 Mil Weekend: bit.ly/sz3yNv
Smart strategy. Not. Who the hell came up with that? The stupid thing is, The Rum Diaries is based on a book by Hunter S Thompson and is from the director of Withnail & I (a movie that has a huge cult following here in the UK). Damning in its own way I suppose. I do think people had a better feeling with Pierce Brosnan and her teamed up.English Agent wrote:There was an interesting interview with Dame Judy Dench in one of the British Sunday papers today............Dench said she likes Craig as Bond, but her favourite was Pierce Brosnan, and she says she misses him. How could you dame dench, why, why, why, why this will not stand, I'll see to it that babs sees this...yeah you're in for it now, ignoring our emperor palpatines orders (barbs) and lord vadar (cregg) will get you in serious trouble..how can anyone say anything imperfect about the godly craig, a man who was once said to be in the bible...(you know like chuck norris,) yeah that kind of thing, why he wrestled alligators once and saved my father from an alien invasion, course craig didn't dress like a cowboy and there was no harrison ford and he said he doesn't give a d**n, but it was still pretty caaawwwl, why when he jumped through that ceiling in quantum of solace (best movie name evvvar, goldeneye psssh what kind of name is that, who would take the time to spraypaint their eye gold anyway...yes I have seen the film...isn't it about dinosaurs and jeff goldblum talking about running and screaming..?) you could tell it was totally not cgi and that elvis presley villain was a stroke of genius..d**n I can't wait for him to fight an even more important villain....and this bond has more layers than shrek (take that shrek, however I don't think he beats donkey.??), seriously this bond was frozen in time and is truly a gift to this day and age , and judi dench will now...sit on a bench after she said that...yeah you went against the church of brocolli...you know what they say about people going against vegetables..(oh crap that was a direct insult to our lord barbs)...we're not worthy, we're not worthy.Alessandra wrote:bjmdds wrote:
