Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Exactly, but that's something that's been forgotten ever since Craig onto the stage-to the point the filmmakers thought the best way out for him was to kill his iteration of the character. It sends a message Craig wasn't just another actor who played this iconic character-we are supposed to view his version as being on a level of its own.bjmdds wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 12:51 am Screenrant.com's Paul Shirey: Bond producer Michael G. Wilson has said that the Bond films weren’t one big film series but rather a “series of series," which creates an interesting through-line for the series, allowing fans to connect each Bond actor at their own whim, rather than having them line up to any specific timeline or series of events.............While Craig's run was a strong and unique one, it also had its drawbacks. For some, the interconnected nature didn't work and robbed the series of the fun that had dominated the franchise up to that point. The Craig films also focused on a sense of realism, aping The Bourne Identity style of more grounded action and spectacle, avoiding the more cartoonish nature of previous entries. However, the danger in that is that it ignores the fact that those aspects are every bit a part of what helped create the lore of Bond.................The simplest and most effective means of continuing Bond past the Craig era is to return to its roots. Just as prior Bond films did before, Bond 26 should begin with 007 already established and in continuity without the unnecessary burden of origins and introductions. After 60 years and 25 films, audiences are well aware of who Bond is, what his characteristics are, what his drink order is, and what is M.O. is. Getting back into the "series of series" explanation from Wilson, Bond simply needs to appear, intact and with all of his known characteristics, and get on with the show. The new Bond actor, whoever it may be, should be settled and ready to assume the mantle without missing a beat, simply carrying on as if he's been Bond for years. Bond 26 can set itself apart well enough with a new actor in the role, but hiring a filmmaker that can put a unique spin on things is also an aspect that shouldn't be ignored, as both the actor and director can do most of the heavy lifting in charting a new, yet familiar, course for Bond. Similar to Batman, James Bond is about the character more so than the actor playing him, so paying attention to what makes him special, unique, and everlasting is what Bond 26 should be all about.

Happy birthday to MGW, who turns 80 today, and David Arnold, who turns 60. I feel like there's some cosmic significance to the fact that they were born exactly 20 years apart, but I can't quite place it.

Cr-egg is history........what is Broccoli waiting for?
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I have seen stories saying that Babbzy is actively looking for a new Bond, but I never know how seriously to take them. And as I've said before, remember that nearly three years passed between the release of DAD and the Nightclub Bouncer being announced as "Bond".

She's just now starting, she only filmed Craig's death scene 3 years ago, she must have some idea of who she wants to hire!Kristatos wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:52 pm I have seen stories saying that Babbzy is actively looking for a new Bond, but I never know how seriously to take them. As Kris says, she's going to let Craig take a victory lap and rightfully so, as much as we are anxious to move on and see who's next, announcing the new actor too soon would be disrespectful. Remember how many of us felt when Pierce was let go so unceremoniously and Dan was propped up immediately after? You know Babz won't do that to her beloved.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Good point. She’s not only had the final act filmed for years she knew before filming it would be the last for Craig. She should have not only a new bond signed but a decent script and director hired.
We know she’s literally done nothing and now any plans if they existed are in the air because Amazon will have a say in script, director, cast, format. If Babs had been proactive in leading bond franchise she’d have inked deals before Amazon was on the horizon. She didn’t and now even if she has an idea of what to do next it will not be as easy as it was in the past with pushover studios desperate for a tent pole film.

Absolutely and the same could be said about covid, had she put her butt in gear, Bond 25 would have been well clear of theaters before the first cough left Wuhan!Omega wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 2:10 am Good point. Want to recoup some money with a 60th anniversary re-release? Try releasing a good film, like I don't know, Dr. No!

Got to say I agree with just about everything said in this, perhaps I would rank Moore higher at #2, but that's more for sentimental reasons rather than logical ones.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
According to Deadline reporter Justin Kroll, "one source with a couple clients in the new Bond actor mix told me something interesting recently of when a decision may come down the pipeline, 'I think we here [sic] who it is after the Oscars.'" He then went on to say this isn't an explicit confirmation, and that this is "a 'could hear a name' by spring not a guarantee to."

The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
People have been ready for a new Bond since skyfall. But Babs has been about Craig’s ego letting him make mediocre movies that hurt the franchise, all to boost his ego. Does she think the Oscar’s are her final gift for Craig?
Problem I see with a announcing anything is the merger. I don’t think it’s done, and MGM isn’t going to risk making Amazon unhappy.
But I’d be glad if somebody is signed good or bad because it finally move eon a step further than they’ve taken since 2006
What would be funny to me is to have a CGI younger Brosnan so a waking from a bad dream set in the original time line possibly before DAD credits begin

I don't think there's much substance to this rumour, tbh. It's all "a friend of a friend who works as a gofer on the Bond films says" stuff.

There's not much here we didn't already know but here is Baz Bamigboye in the Mail today...

No time to spy as list of Bond hopefuls gets shorter...
Deep-cover informants have confided — so I can share with all of you, of course — that the runners and riders you often hear about being 'up for Bond' are more likely to be up and out of it. Everyone rates — and adores — Idris Elba, but he won't be named as the man to take over from Daniel Craig. Mainly because Elba's too old, at 49, to play the role from scratch. Craig was 38 when he first played 007 in Casino Royale, and he bowed out at 53. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who keep the Bond conflagrations burning, have spoken of how much they enjoyed partnering with Craig on five films in 15 years, culminating with No Time To Die, which has been making a big play for award season honours.
They want their new Bond to be young enough to make a series of films — a quintet, like Craig — with a storyline that carries through. By that reckoning, is Tom Hardy, another favourite, too old to take Bond on at 44? Then there's that sex-god bloke, Rege-Jean Page from Bridgerton. Mmm. My sense is no, no, but you never know. One problem with taking someone from the TV world is that they're often caught up in long-term contracts. No, I reckon they'll go for someone who's under the radar. He (it won't be a she) will be someone with solid theatre acting chops, like Craig, because Broccoli, in particular, is a champion of the stage. I did hear a rumour. No, it can't be him. Can it?!

Hmm, Bamigboye used to be known as a bullshitter, claiming Bond "exclusives" that never materialised. But the past few films, he's broken some genuine scoops, so I'm inclined to take him a bit more seriously. Who do we think "him" is in this story?

I think "him" is a figment of old boy's imagination. He's just naming off stuff everybody knows, needs to be younger than late 40's, Babz likes the theater, they go for lesser known actors. I could make up the same B.S. If he'd heard a rumor with any substance to it he'd be blabbing up a storm to scoop everyone.Kristatos wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 1:32 pm Hmm, Bamigboye used to be known as a bullshitter, claiming Bond "exclusives" that never materialised. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Pierce Brosnan's 7 year delay movie finally hits cinemas as colossal flop JAMES BOND star Pierce Brosnan shot The King's Daughter with Pirates of the Caribbean's Kaya Scoderlario back in 2014. The troubled movie, featuring a narration by Julie Andrews, has only just debuted in cinemas to a terrible opening weekend at the box office after years in post-production limbo, during which its Chinese star disappeared. The King's Daughter was finally released last week on over 2000 US cinema screens, but the delay in hopes of avoiding a box office bomb failed, not helped by terrible reviews. The King's Daughter has a big green splat with just 21 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a critics’ consensus reading: “A muddled mess that was clearly tinkered with in post-production to little avail, The King's Daughter is a royal disappointment.” On top of that, the $40 million movie has made just over $700,000 at the box office making it one of the biggest flops of all time. Perhaps it will have a second life when released on streaming in the UK and other territories.

I hope FBF doesn't see this story, he'll have a meltdown. Probably blame us for not buying 10 million tickets each.
