Really wish I hadn't gone down that rabbit hole. It never ceases to amaze me the number of "Bond fans" who want Bond to be anything but. One poor soul espoused their wish that Bond develop a team much like the Mission Impossible franchise. They have a film like that old boy, it's called Mission Impossible! This irrational individual also declared their deepest desire to see Craig's Bond as a mentor to a group of young agents in a fatherly role. Just what I always wanted to see Bond acting as school marm!

Speaking with Yahoo Movies, Cavill said: “I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool.

“I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.

“Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond.”

“I’d love to play a Brit. I don’t get to play a Brit very often. “So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say ‘yes.’ Intro scene 2022?

Oh they were doing real stunts alright, it just wasn't the real star doing them (cough) Craig mask (cough).

I hate to throw cold water on the party but before all this Cavill excitement builds to a towering crescendo we must remember who is still in charge at EON. Regardless of who is in the role they will still have to contend with Purvis and Wade scripts, a revolving door of auteur directors and an incessant need on Babz part to inject some melodramatic twist fit only for the kitschiest of soap operas in to the story. So while I don't particularly like Craig, I can't say the films would have been any better had a more classically fitting actor been in the role, nor do I hold out much hope that things will change come recasting time. I hold out hope but until I see it I won't believe it.

DB, I forget who first said this, “the problem is not that Craig is not but Barbara is not Cubby”
It’s very true, large part of the problem with the movies is babs.
I do think Craig has more input than we know so a lot of things like brofeld and mommy m might not have happened without him. The movie he had the least input in was CR, which people who like Craig still think was his best, to me it points out how much a failed effort the reboot has been and how much a ego trip it’s been for babs and Craig.
Another thing is how no director seriously wants to be part of the franchise since 1995, they all says it’s too much work, mostly because the movie are rushed and the only way a professional director can meet eons expectations is over work themselves and crew. Maybe what made the original series work wasdirectors staying on longer than one movie.

Very true Big O, Craig has had unprecedented input as an actor and each successive film he's gotten more, is it any coincidence that each film has been worse and non Bond like than the one before? Craig has been trading on Casino Royale for 12 years now. people seem to lock on to that film and can't see EON's following productions for the dumpster fires they are.

Henry Cavill in Skyfall would still have been bad.

This rather eccentric gossip site says that the producers want Henry Cavil as Bond.

To quote Dr Fox on Brass Eye "...and that is a fact. There's no actual evidence for it, but it is a fact nonetheless".

Well it does, doesn't it?

I can't wait till Craig goes and all the rose colored glasses come off. Craig will be brutalized and forgotten especially if that actor is black or some other minority is cast. Social Justice Warriors will be so enamored with their "Wokeness" Craig will be relegated to the bargain bin of Bond history.

Was Broccoli waiting for Cavill to de-Superman? Is a contract now being discussed?

To my knowledge it's all rumor and innuendo at this point and quite frankly I'm not putting much stock in it. Especially if Barbara is holding out hope she can woo back Craig for another one.

The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......

Post by Omega »

I caught part of SF on one of the cable channels yesterday, I forgot how painfully bad it is. The cutaways in action sequences to a close up of Craig are ridiculous, it’s soo obvious he was not actually anywhere near the action. Then the posing and walking into the light just enough to show the audience it’s him is bad. Half the Craig technique relies on the audience to be wowed it is him or it is supposed to be “bond”. What really stuck out was how bad the sound track was, very generic. A few notes that tried to punch up the memory of the bond theme but is just uninspired overall.

EON has relied on nostalgia to prop up the empty husk of babs bond for way to long assuming it’s either what audiences want or that audiences forgive them for the half assed producing. I’m not sure the series isn’t ready for another fall.

Re Cavill at one point in 2011 a faction of EON I assume babs nephews were in talk with him about taking over the role and redefining bond for the “new decade”. So I guess it’s not impossible if they ever move off Craig for them to pick up where they left off. Also Turner had real talks with EON at some point, who knows if EON has any real plans for revitalizing Bond after Craig.

Good points about Skyfall Big O, Mendes' approach to both Bond films has felt like a second year film student shoving in every little trick he learned in lighting 101.

Considering the chaos surrounding this current production I'd say they don't have any plans at all!

Kingsman 3's release date is now a bit of a James Bond reference, which is the perfect sort of gag for these very self-aware movies. According to Entertainment Weekly, it’s been slotted in for November 8, 2019, which was originally supposed to be the release date for Bond 25 before Danny Boyle dropped out. Now, with True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga coming on board to replace Boyle, Bond 25 has been delayed and the door has been opened for a different British spy to take that November release date.

You can watch Cr-egg's films? I have an aversion for his face on my tv screen. I will be watching Turner Classic Movies' Matt Helm marathon starting at 8:00pm EST tomorrow evening and I will record all 4 films as well. These films are more enjoyable than any Cr-egg Bond film. Dean Martin's character must have been the template for The Kingsman films now.
