There are the Dannys of this world and then there are people who do the blockbusters," continued Pryce, who played the villainous Elliot Carver in 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies. Boyle has never concealed his left-leaning sympathies, though he declined to identify himself as a socialist in a 2013 interview. His opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics featured a Bond-based short and a set-piece tribute to the National Health Service. The film may not now be released "until late 2020", according to the Hollywood Reporter's 'unnamed' sources.
Yeah right. The Daily Mail would hate any lefty directing a Bond movie. I can't see how Bond could actually be portrayed as a socialist though, unless the villain has some massive financial hack planned to rob the rich and give to the poor and at the end Bond decides to just let it happen, for the greater good! The only other way is if they went totally unsubtle with it, with him saying in a bar "No. Labour."

I really don't think politics should be brought into Bond movies although I'll allow J. W.'s "Who we after, commies?" as I found it funny.

There is a rather starting passage in one of Fleming's books where Bond expresses sympathy for the Cuban revolution, but I suppose it has to be looked at in the context of the time it was written. Bond would have had no way of knowing that the Castro regime would be around for decades and decades, and the mafia state it replaced was no utopia either.

I don’t think the Cuban revolution was communist at first. The mafia basically ran Cuba or wanted to. A lot of money invested there and a lost of shady banana wars kind of stuff the USA did there. I remember something in history class about Castro looking for support from the usa when it became apparent nobody would help him he found someone who was interested. At what point this was in the revolution I don’t know.

Far as Fleming would of known it Cuba was a play ground for the rich, so bond thinking it wasn’t so bad the working man getting ahead for a change wouldn’t be out of place. Bay of pigs and the missile crisis was a long way away at the time Fleming wrote that. A very James Bond kind of play ground before cuba became locked in 1957 forever. Probably one of the things DAD got right was adding Cuba as a destination and the way it was portrayed.

The rumor about pushing bond 25 to late 2020 or beyond is just ridiculous, not saying it couldn’t be true at this point but there’s no reason for it, not really. EON is unprepared that probably true but that’s not a reason enough for 3 years not being enough to get a movie ready

Bond wasn't overly fond of American gangsters. He had several run-ins with the Spangled Mob in the books. I don't think they've ever appeared in the films, possibly because their name seems more Drag Queen Story Hour than The Godfather to me.

Spent last night sitting outside watching "The Spy Who Loved Me" on our outdoor movie set up ( I have been abandoned by my family for the weekend!). With a nice bottle of red wine (a Spanish garnacha) and a couple of good cigars, it was the perfect way to wind down the summer.

A couple of thoughts as I rewatched a film I have seen probably 20 times. Roger Moore owned Bond in this film. It is his most confident performance in the series. Every look he gave was calculated. You could see him figuring out his next move in every sequence ( a trait that Pierce Brosnan also brought to Bond) and even his quips were done with a knowing tone. He wasn't just making puns, he was an agent provocateur, with every phrase trying to provoke a response.

In the action scenes he moved with an economy of motion that was different from the physical dominance that Sean Connery had brought to the role but which serve the character just as well.

What struck me most was the direction. With the Bond films current fascination with auteurs, Lewis Gilbert must seem like a step down to them, a journeyman director. Yet what I saw was a master craftsman putting on a film school for those who paid attention. Every shot was beautifully framed and composed. At the temple of Karnak scene, Bond and Anya are filmed from below, so that the gigantic nature of the columns can dwarf them. The choice of music such as the the theme from Lawrence of Arabia, which could have been a joke, instead are used as a shorthand to reference a mood and dare I say another classic British hero.

Its been a long time since I gave my full attention to a Bond film, I think I will revisit my favourite Moore outing, For Your Eyes Only, soon.

I think a lot skill of the old era Hollywood has been lost. While they were not the super stars of the era they were competent craftsmen nearly masters of their art unlike the YouTube generation of directors we have now.

2020 was one of the rumor circulating in the good Hollywood sites. It based on thinking they are back to square one producing bond 25.

John McCain is dead. I wish I had something good to say about it other than being relieved Arizona will get a new senator.
McCain was a hero at once point after his 2008 he became a selfish man enshrined in the system.

Had McCain left office before May 30, his Senate seat would have been on the ballot in Arizona in November 2018. Now, the Governor picks his replacement. McCain should have resigned months ago. His ego would not let him. His vote to keep Obamacare will be his legacy.....Irony-Man, check in here more often :!:

According to the industry website's sources, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson have drawn up a shortlist of four possible replacement directors who could get the film back on track - provided one of them signs on the dotted line within a 60-day window. The directors named in the report are:

Jean-Marc Vallée - the Oscar-nominated Canadian director of Dallas Buyers Club who has recently made the leap to TV with the acclaimed dramas Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects.
David Mackenzie - one of the many names attached to the Bond 25 job before Boyle was hired, the Scottish director of Starred Up, Hell Or Highwater and the forthcoming Robert The Bruce epic Outlaw King is currently in pre-production on the James Ellroy-written TV series Gemstone.
Yann Demange - the French-born, UK-based director of the tense Irish Troubles thriller '71 is currently receiving much praise for his true crime thriller White Boy Rick, starring Richie Merritt as a teenage drug informant.
Edgar Wright - the British action specialist behind Baby Driver and Shaun of the Dead has been open about his desire to direct a Bond film.

Wright is the only one of those whose work I've seen, and I certainly think he could do it. He's obviously a Bond fan, having cast Tim in Hot Fuzz and Pierce in The World's End (He later said that he wishes he'd completed the pattern by finding a part for Roger in Shaun of the Dead). But once again, you don't cite your sources. Which "industry website" does the article you've plagiarised refer to?

I’m not sure any of those choices can drop everything in such a short time.

The girlfriend of alleged Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, Marilou Danley, worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to records :!:  According to the website Intelius.com, Marilou Danley, 63, worked at the FBI in Atlantis, which is in the Bahamas, and also at One News Page Ltd :!: The fact that Paddock owned a plane that the FAA deregistered just days before the 9/11 attacks in 2001 and later disappeared from their database till 2006 when it showed up in Paddock's possession and later in the hands of a Defense contractor and now this information should cause even more concern as to the nature of the Las Vegas shooting of 2017.

yes but it’s a republican gov. As long as we can avoid his widow or daughter being appointed to his seat it’ll be an improvement

Let's hope it's an improvement :!: It's so warming to see Schumer, Pelosi, and all of the liberal haters of Republicans suddenly effusive in their praise about McCain :!: It's shameful and expected :!:
